Meritocracy at Science DAO pays scientists and open-source developers based on documented public contributions

Funding decisions are transparent, (in a future version) decentralized, with transactions verifiable on-chain.

Our software us set to distribute funding to scientists based on AI-assessed contributions and measurable research impact.

You need neither a science degree, nor grant writing to receive an R&D grant. You just need published research or software.

Science DAO - Funding Research & Innovation

Our app asks an LLM to produce a heuristic estimate framed as a share of world GDP (based on scanning of what he/she wrote on the Web). This output has not yet been validated as a measurement of causal economic contribution and allocates him/her the corresponding portion of donated funds. See here, how it is better than traditional donations.

The app beta (see also the source) has been released. We need money to make it useful. See also the project status and the paper.

To become eligible for our grants, spend just 5 min of your time filling the forms (just once). Users may still need to:

  • curate ORCID or GitHub records;
  • establish authorship;
  • respond to disputes;
  • document work missing from supported sources;
  • satisfy recent-activity or identity requirements.

This project is very important, because every year trillions dollars in not accomplished innovation are lost (direct economic losses: billions of dollars, see 1 and see 2) due to not published or mis-published scientific works. Even one scientific article published in a wrong way can sometimes severely hinder development of the entire mankind's science (example). So, we need to fund salaries and promotion of products of every scientist and every FOSS developer, whether he/she has a science degree or not. Science degrees are amplifiers of societal discrimination. (Reliance on degrees and institutional affiliation can disadvantage capable independent researchers and may reproduce socioeconomic or geographic inequalities.) AIIM therefore attempts to evaluate documented outputs rather than using credentials as a mandatory prerequisite.

This software also creates a new occupation - science marketers/reviewers - so marketing of scientific works (especially, underepresented ones) will come into hands of professional marketers.

How the science gets stuck

This is how science works in modern world (image from https://xkcd.com/2347/):

Modern science illustration - Science DAO visual representation

At the one hand, predatory publishers publish tons of bullshit under the name of science.

At the other hand, some of the researchers are not properly advertising their research due to which only those who are searching through the right keywords know about it. As a result, the other researchers studying the same topic won’t publish their research because it has been already published but not marketed properly making the research unpublishable and the science stuck.

(For example, Victor Porton hard a trouble (see the personal story) to publish ordered semigroup actions and discontinuous analysis. This made the science lag, probably for years.) Publishing ordered semigroup actions and other "covered" discoveries is now a world war that you should Join. It will be the best investment of your money into welfare of mankind.

Support Independent Science

Our flagship product is AI Internet-Meritocracy - an app, that unlike universities distributes money directly to researchers and open source developers, without traditional bureaucracy.

AIIM’s dependency-aware allocation model is currently being tested. Support the next testing milestone.

Supporting independent science is not only a matter of fairness to researchers whose expertise and work are often underfunded. It is also essential for addressing systemic failures in scientific publishing that delay discoveries and leave important results unnoticed. In science and software, even one missing component can prevent an entire system from working.

Help valuable research and open-source infrastructure move forward. Please make a donation to support independent scientists and free software developers.

Dislclaimer

Experimental-system notice: AI Internet-Meritocracy is an experimental funding system. Its AI-generated evaluations are heuristic judgments based on available public or connected-account evidence; they are not validated measurements of a person’s causal economic or scientific impact. The current beta uses custodial and administrative components. Decentralized governance, non-custodial wallets, and complete on-chain auditability remain under development. Evaluations may contain factual errors or biases and should be interpreted together with audit logs, appeals, human oversight, and published test results.
